National Lake Conservation Development Committee (NLCDC), the organizer of the Conference is one of the national key institutions engaged in the conservation, development, and promotion of lake conservation and wise use of wetlands under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation. Since the establishment, NLCDC has become the national partner of International Lake Environment Committee Foundation/Japan (ILEC) to implement the holistic philosophy of Integrated Lake Basin Management (ILBM). This approach recognizes lakes as water body with complex dynamics and intrigue nature.
Therefore, the understanding of the complex dynamics and intrigue nature of lake itself is critically important for the effective conservation and management of lakes and associated resources. This is an emerging issue in lake conservation in Nepal, especially when its complex geography is directly associated with climate change.
In addition, the NLCDC has been organizing seminars and workshops in Nepal and is supporting and coordinating with national and international organizations for the conservation and development of lakes and their resources. To name the few are National Workshop on Lake Conservation for the Tourism Promotion in 2008 and International Workshop on Integrated Lake Basin management for the Sustainability of Himalayan Lakes in 2010). Since then, there is no consolidated discussion regarding the lake conservation and management issues in Nepal. Therefore, this Conference will be an opportunity to take the stock of conservation and wise use of lakes and wetlands in Nepal in particular and the world in general.
